New Anthony Bourdain TV Show coming to Travel Channel

Anthony Bourdain eats in the window at Hot Doug's Love him or hate him, you cannot deny that Anthony Bourdain’s TV show No Reservations is currently one of, if not the, hottest travel shows currently running.  It has a unique blend of food, culture, nightlife, and how to get off the beaten path to provide the viewer with the type of travel experience many of us yearn for, but can never seem to find.  This is what I have always enjoyed about No Reservations, it shows us how to enjoy a destination the way the locals do, rather than how to enjoy the tourist sites.  You get exposed to the raw, sometimes gritty, underbelly of cities.  While this is understandably not for everyone, it is an interesting look beyond the typical tourist sites that are swarming with crowds.  The show has always been great with helping you really get to know a destination.

The Travel Channel has approved Bourdain for a new show, The Layover.  The idea behind this show is somewhat different than No ReservationsThe Layover places Bourdain in a city for no more then 24-48 hours and has him show you how to have the maximum experience given your minimal time.  This is especially important for TWiBT readers who are taking advantage of airlines’ stopover rules to squeeze extra cities into their flight itinerary.

For example, my upcoming honeymoon in Europe is in Italy & France.  Between the flight from Italy to France, instead of choosing a direct Rome to Paris flight, I chose a flight that has to stop in Barcelona.  My stopover in Barcelona is 5 days, so basically I’m getting to see Spain for no extra charge.  Otherwise, I would have had to purchase train tickets, take the ferry from Rome to Barcelona, or just purchased another flight.

You can be sure that I’ll be looking for an episode of The Layover that covers Barcelona, given my limited time there.  This show also promises to stay off the common tourist sites and show you a unique side to destinations.  The Layover will air on the Travel Channel this fall.  No Reservations will also continue airing as normal.  The more travel shows, the merrier.
