Blood Pond Hot Spring
This week we look at Blood Pond Hot Spring in Beppu, Japan. These hot springs obtain their natural red color from the iron and minerals in the water. The spring’s water is heated due to the geothermal heat coming from underground. Although the area has many hot springs, I do not believe this one is open for swimming in. Especially given the dangerous temperatures it can reach.
It was originally believed that the spring obtained the red color from someone pouring in a few packets of Kool-Aid powder. This has since been disproven as the pitcher has not been seen in the area. OH YEAH!
